OSH Alumni Association

Through the use of these online forums, safety practitioners who have taken NSC classroom courses leading to Occupational Safety & Health certificates may extend their learning by communicating with other course attendees, instructors and NSC safety consultants.

How to get started

  •   Register for a forum account

Go to the Council's eConversations page at http://list.nsc.org/dc/dcboard.php. (The page will open in a separate window, so you can continue to see these instructions.)

Bookmark the eConversations page in your browser. In MS Internet Explorer, go to the Favorites menu at the top of your browser window and choose Add to favorites.

Locate the text, "First time visitor? Please register." Take the Please register link.

On the first registration form screen, agree to the terms of use by clicking on the I agree button.

On the next registration form screen, fill in a user name, a password you will remember (entered twice for verification), your full name, and a working e-mail address -- all required. Click the Submit form button.

Provided everything has been entered properly, you should be presented with a screen telling you, "User account created successfully. Click here to login."

  •   Log in to your new account

    Click on the login link.

Enter your new username and password. (Click on the checkbox labeled, "Remain logged on when I return later" if you like. This will set a cookie on your computer.) Click on the Login button.

If you are logging in for the first time, you will see a form asking you to specify various profile and preferences information. If you are new to using online forums, you may want to leave these blank for now or accept the default settings; you can always return to this form once you have become more familiar with the software. At some point, you may want to use the comments field to tell other users which courses you have taken, and provide a little information about your job. When you have completed as much of the form as you wish to, scroll to the bottom of the page and click on the Submit button.

On successful completion of the form, you will see a screen with the link, "Click here to go to the main forum." Click it.

Now you should see the main forum page, showing links to forums in the Help conference. The link to your OSH Alumni Association forum will not appear yet because it is a private board, and you have not yet been given access to it.

Please feel free to practice posting a message in the Practice forum to get a feel for how the forum software works.

  •   Request access to a private forum

Send e-mail to workplace@nsc.org to request access to one or more of the following forums. Click on the certificate link to see which courses belong to each certificate program.

In your e-mail message, please state:

    • The forum or forums to which you are requesting access
    • Your name and organization
    • The occupational safety certificate courses you have taken, along with the approximate date and location of the most recent course
    • The user name you specified when you registered for the forums.

A forum administrator will verify your course completion and send e-mail to confirm your access to the private forum or forums. This may take 1-2 business days.

Depending on your computer's configuration, you may need to log out and log back in before you will be able to see the link to your new forum on the main forum listing page.

  •   Enjoy!

We hope you will benefit from this extension of your classroom training through comparing notes with other OSH alumni and consulting with NSC staff. We are excited about the possibilities this form of discussion may bring about to carry your learning into your workplace.

If you have questions about how the forums work, please use the Help forum. That way, others having the same questions also may be helped. If you are an experienced message board user, we hope you will not hesitate to help other users find their way around. We want to make this a true community of safety pros helping each other learn.

Construction notes:

You may want to request a new dedicated e-mail address from IT: oshforums@nsc.org, or oshaa@nsc.org. Or something.

We'll need to draft an e-mail message from the administrator, confirming access to the private forums. This isn't done automatically by the message board software.

Will you need additional details to confirm course completion?
